Before the match even begins Spamandrice analyzes his opponents team composition to determine which turn order to pick in the Rock Paper Scissors battle. Turn 1 is usually favored but since he is using a bleed variant he chooses to go second for the extra energy. He also determines that both of their win conditions will be killing the Mech backliner.
The game has very limited time for each turn, so you should know your team comp back to front to make your decision making easier on each turn. Spam knows that he will always be playing Tri Feather since it has the ‘Degrade’ effect on it. Degrade means that he will lose the card if he does not play it.
Spam has the choice to retain either Axie Kiss or Wing Horn. Since the Win Condition he identified earlier was to kill the opponents backliner he chooses to retain Axie Kiss. This will allow him to target this Axie.
When you are playing a comp with cards like Lucas, during the game you should keep track of whether you are going to use Lucas for your discard pile or your draw pile. During the opponent’s Turn 3, Spam is already thinking about the scenario in which he draws a Lucas and decides he will not play it initially because there are no cards in his discard pile that he wants. This saves him time during his own turn.
It is important to always keep in mind which order to play your cards in. In Turn 4 Spam uses his Feather Daggers on the back Mech before using Axie Kiss. This ensures that the Axie Kiss attack will also target this critical enemy axie. Another example of card sequencing is in Turn 6. Spam once again uses his Feather Daggers to lower enemy axies health. This time it is in order to get each enemy axie into red range (<50% health) so that Wing Horn does extra damage.
Sometimes you can learn more from a loss than from a win. After the match Spam goes back to the tape to see where he may have gone wrong. Even an Axie Champion and leaderboard Rank 1 player can make mistakes. The first aspect of the match he analyzes is his Turn order pick. Perhaps, even with bleed, the extra energy was not needed and he could have killed the opponents backliner on Turn 5. In Turn 2, he played Tri Feather before Arco. He knew that he needed to play Tri Feather in the turn but may have got the order incorrect. If Arco was played first, it would have given an extra feather to the midliner. Which would have given extra damage when Tri Feather was played.
